Isabel Allende’s trium-phant return to historical fiction, La Isla Bajo El Mar,
tells the story of Zarité, a nine-year-old mulatto girl who is sold as a slave in eighteenth-century
Santo Domingo. Booklist claims that “Demand will be high for this transporting, re-markably
topical novel of men and women of courage risking all for liberty.” To read more about it,
